What powder is used to Print Metal 3D?
Flowability: The most significant characteristic for metal powder is the capability to move through the 3D printer. Materials that are more flowable can be controlled more easily and create better quality products and layers. Additionally they are less likely to make products with irregular layers. The better flowability of powder makes it easier to produce a metal 3D object.
Powder 316L stainless steel
Stainless steel 316L powder has been extensively studied for its impact on AM. It is a representative metal which means that results can be applied to other metal alloys. The size distribution of the powder, as determined using the 4S methodology is 9.43 millimeters. The shape of the particle (PSF) is very close to one. The properties of the powder are described in Table 1.
Titanium
The most commonly used metal alloy that is used during 3D printing will be the one that is used for printing titanium. It is extremely durable and durable metal that is well-suited for the manufacturing of functional parts prototyping, prototypes and other products for aerospace, military and automotive use. It is also biocompatible and is commonly used for medical implants.
The advantages to titanium powder is numerous as the material has gained popularity in additive manufacturing applications. It's about half it's weight and its unique properties make it an ideal material for printing 3D. Titanium is a lightweight material, it is heat-resistant and chemically inert, and is biocompatible. In addition to its numerous advantages, it is especially beneficial in aerospace and motor vehicle applications when the size of the item is crucial.
Niobium
Niobium powder is a fantastic material to use in 3D printing on metal because it is bio inert and easy to process. During additive manufacturing, it is used to produce niobium alloys which are used to produce aerospace parts and engines. The process is known as the laser-driven powder bed fusion (also known as SLM), and it makes use of a laser to selectively melt the powder into metals.
Niobium has a chemically similar material to tantalum. Their melting point is comparable. They also share a similar electrical and thermal conductivity. This makes them ideal for chemical processing. Actually, they're extensively used in the fabrication of capacitors as well as others electrical components.
