Introduction
NURBS is an acronym for Non-Uniform Ration B-Splines. NURBS
provide a mathematical definition for a large class. of curves and surfaces.
Each part of the name NURB implies some mathematical choice (and tradeoff).
Non-Uniform versus Uniform, Rational versus Non-Rational, Basis functions
versus some other blending paradigm. NURBS typically use the more general
choice in each case.
VX Corporation uses NURBS to represent all curve and surface
entities. OpenVX supports both rational and non-rational B-splines.
Anything more than a simple description of NURBS and their properties is beyond the scope of this text. A list of publications which contain more in-depth descriptions is given below.
