Associating Part and CAM Class Attributes

You can associate parts at the Part Level as components in a CAM process plan using the "Class" attribute. This will allow you to model the entire CAM setup including the part, stock, clamps, table, tool holder and attachment as an assembly at the Part Level and then insert it directly into your CAM process plan. To do so, perform the following steps:

At the Part Level

  1. Create a part model of each CAM component (part, clamp, stock, etc.)

  2. Assign each part the appropriate attribute class (part, clamp, stock, etc.) using the Part Attributes Form.

  3. Create an assembly of the CAM setup using each part that you created. You can use either the top-down or bottom-up method to create your assembly.

At the Object Level

  1. Go to the Object Level and create a new CAM process plan. It can be located in the same VX file as your assembly or in a separate file if desired.

At the CAM Level

  1. Go to the CAM Plan Manager and right-click on Geometry and select Insert to display the CAM Browser.

  2. Locate the VX file and assembly (it will be listed in the Shapes list) you created at the Part Level and select it.  Then pick Yes to add it insert it.

  3. Now look at the Geometry section of the CAM Plan Manager again.  The assembly and each component will be listed.  The CAM Class Attribute will be shown next to each component.

  4. To change a component's CAM Class Attribute, right-click on the component in the CAM Plan Manager tree and select Edit Class.  Then select a new class attribute for the component.
