Compare Parts
![]()
Use this command to compare
two parts and show the differences between them. The parts have to be
inserted one on top of the other as components in an empty assembly (i.e.,
they must occupy the same space).
If they are miss-matched more than the default geometry tolerance, the component’s faces will not be paired for the comparison. The command is not logged to the history. It is strictly a query function with no variables created.
A bounding box match between the faces of the two components determines the pairs of faces for further comparison. The result places the faces in four categories: unchanged, changed, deleted and new. The form allows you to cycle through the faces in each category in the graphics window.
When the command is invoked you are asked to select the two components. The order of the selection determines how the faces are classified (e.g., deleted vs. new). New faces are green, deleted faces are red, changed faces are yellow and unchanged faces are brown.
For IGES files, once they are read and VX parts are created, they can be inserted as one of the components for comparison.

Summary
Provides a summary of the comparison results.
Unchanged - A face is considered unchanged in the second component if it's identical to a face in the first component
Changed - A face is considered changed in the second component if it differs from a face, occupying approximately same physical space based on a bounding box comparison, in the first component.
Deleted - A face is considered deleted if it is in the first component but not the second component
New - A face is new if it is in the second component but not the first component.
Show All - Show all in the group specified.
Single Step - Step through faces one at a time of the group specified.
Show
Select a button to show those compared faces. The form allows you to cycle through the faces as they are highlighted in the graphics window.
