Linear Dimensions (2D) Updated for the current release.

Invoked ByInsert go to Dimensions (Sketch/Sheet Levels)

Use these commands to create 2D linear dimensions at the Sketch and Drawing Sheet Level. At the Drawing Sheet Level, many of the dimension types support each of the four dimension modes (normal, baseline, continuous and ordinate). The default mode is normal. It is used here for documenting purposes. The other modes will vary slightly.  Only a subset of these linear dimension types are supported at the Sketch Level.

The required inputs include the points to dimensions and the dimension text location (i.e., origin). Some will request additional reference geometry or values such as lines and angles.  See below for the optional inputs.

Horizontal Dimension Horizontal Dimension (2D)

Invoked ByInsert > Dimensions > Linear (Sketch/Sheet Levels)

Create a linear horizontal dimension between two points. Select the two points and then drag to locate the dimension text. The figures below indicate the pick points for each dimension mode.

Vertical Dimension Vertical Dimensions (2D)

Invoked ByInsert > Dimensions > Linear (Sketch/Sheet Levels)

Create a linear vertical dimension between two points. Select the two points and then drag to locate the dimension text. The figures below indicate the pick points for each dimension mode.

Projected Dimension Projected Dimension (2D Sheet Only)

Invoked ByInsert > Dimensions > Linear (Sheet Level)

3899.gifCreate a linear dimension between two points and projected perpendicular to a line. Select the two points to dimension. Then, select the line to project to and drag to locate the dimension text.

Offset Dimension Offset Dimension (2D)

Invoked ByInsert > Dimensions > Linear Offset (Sketch/Sheet Levels)

3059.gifCreate a linear offset dimension between two parallel lines. Select the two lines to dimension and then drag to locate the dimension text.

Projected Distance Dimension Projected Distance Dimension (2D)

Invoked ByInsert > Dimensions > Linear (Sketch/Sheet Levels)

3060.gifCreate a linear dimension that is the projected distance from a point perpendicular to a line. Select the line, the point to dimension to and then drag to locate the dimension text.

Leader Chamfer Dimension Leader Chamfer Dimension (2D Sheet Only)

Invoked ByInsert > Dimensions > Linear Chamfer (Sheet Level)

3454.gifCreate a linear leader dimension that defines the length of a line. Only chamfers at a 45 degree angle may be specified. Select the line and then drag to locate the dimension text.

Aligned Chamfer Dimension Aligned Chamfer Dimension (2D Sheet Only)

Invoked ByInsert > Dimensions > Linear Chamfer (Sheet Level)

Optional Inputs are documented here.Optional Inputs Updated for the current release.

Center TextDo not Center Text

Select the icon to either center or not center the dimension text between the extension lines. If not center is selected, the dimension location point will also dynamically locate the text.

Auto Dogleg

While the Ordinate Dimension Mode is active, use this option to automatically add a dogleg to the extension line.  This is useful when the dimension points are close together.

Text

Use this option to determine how the text of the dimension is generated. Select from the following:

User Text

Defines the dimension text that is displayed instead of the actual dimension value. Used in conjunction with the User Text option above. Enter the user text in the field provided. You can also right-click in the graphics window to activate the Text and Dimension Editor. It provides additional options for creating special characters and symbols within the text.
