About PARTsolutions

PARTsolutions (www.part-solutions.com) is a Standard and Supplier-Parts Catalog System. It contains parametric libraries of mold design and other mechanical parts that can be accessed, parametrically defined and inserted as components into VX. The PARTsolutions libraries also contains generic mechanical hardware components such as nuts, bolts, bearings, shafts, etc.

You can also "check-in" VX parts into PARTsolutions so that they can be "checked-out" by any VX user. Once a VX part is checked-in, PARTsolutions components are fully parametric so that families of parts can be derived and checked-out on demand. See the note below.

Tips & TechniquesIn order to change values in PARTsolutions, you must build the VX part with features driven by variables by selecting Insert > Variable.  VX supports numeric and string variables. To create a string variable, enclose the expression in quotes ("This is a string").

Here is a list of the PARTsolutions functions within VX.

VX PARTsolutions Functions

Function

Description

PARTviewer

Brings up PARTviewer and allows the import of single parts or finished assemblies.

PARTassembly

Brings up PARTassembly and allows the creation/modification and import of assemblies.

PARTconnection

Brings up PARTconnection and allows the creation of screws/bolts to connect two plates/items.

PARTshaft

Brings up PARTshaft and allows the creation of complex shafts.

PARTreplace

Allows the user to pick a part and then brings up PARTviewer to allow the selection of a new part

PARTshell Check In

Allows a user to check a native VX part into PARTsolutions.

PARTshell Check Out

Allows a user to bring in a native VX part from PARTsolutions.

These commands are available from the Part, Sketch and Drawing Sheet Levels of VX. Make sure you are at the proper level (i.e., Part Level for inserting 3D parts, etc.). A VX file must be open and a part, sketch or drawing sheet active. You can create a 2D view of the part in PARTviewer and then insert the view into a VX sketch or drawing sheet.

PARTsolutions needs to be purchased separately and installed. When installing PARTsolutions, there is no need to install a CAD interface since VX includes the entire interface. Once installed VX will find PARTsolutions automatically.

Also, importing PARTsolution files is available through the File Menu, under Import. Select PS2 or PS3 to import 2D or 3D files respectively. Users can get free parts from www.partserver.com. Request them as Cadenas' Metafile 2D or Metafile 3D. The files need to have a ".ps2" or ".ps3" extension in order to be imported into VX. If the partserver does not default to those extensions then the files will need to be renamed before they are imported into VX.
