VX BOM Field Definition Form

Invoked ByFile go to Export go to Create HTML/Web-Link Document go to VX BOM Format Editor

Use this form to define the BOM attribute fields listed in the VX BOM Format Editor. This form is displayed when the Add or Edit buttons of that form are selected. These attributes are formatted and exported during the Export VX Web-Link Document command. They are placed in the "Bill of Materials" (BOM) section of the VX Web-Link document.

About the BOM Format

The BOM will consist of columns and rows. Each column represents one of the default attributes (e.g., Name, Quantity, Cost, etc.) listed in the Part Attributes Form for the active part and its components (if any).

Each row represents a component in the assembly. The header of each column is referred to as the attribute "Description." The contents of each column represent the "Values" for that attribute in each component.

If the BOM contains the "Quantity" or "Cost" attributes, you can choose to display the value totals and place them on a separate row at the bottom of the BOM. You have complete control over what attributes to include and how they are formatted such as value type, justification and text format. See below for more details.

Operational Sequence

  1. Pick the Value tab from the Bom attribute value details section of the form.

  2. Pick the Name button and select an attribute name from the list. The attributes listed represent the default attributes shown on the Part Attributes Form.

  3. Set the Type, Justification and Format for the attribute value selected (see below for more details).

  4. Pick the Description tab from the Bomattribute value details section of the form. The description refers to the header of the column in the BOM for attribute selected. The values (i.e., for each component in the scope of the BOM) of the attribute selected in Step 2 will form the contents of the column in the BOM. Each component in the scope of the BOM will form a row in the BOM.

  5. The default description for the selected attribute is shown in the Description field. You can change it if you wish.

  6. Set the Type, Justification and Format for the attribute description (see below for more details).

  7. If the Cost or Quantity attributes were selected in Step 2, continue on to Step 8. Otherwise proceed directly to Step 14.

The Total value details section of the form only applies to the Cost and Quantity attributes and should be ignored for all other attributes.

  1. Pick Yes or No to show the value totals and to show them on a new row.

  2. Pick the Value tab from the Total value details section of the form. The value name is already supplied and cannot be altered.

  3. Set the Type, Justification and Format for the attribute value total (see below for more details).

  4. Pick the Description tab from the Total value details section of the form. The description refers to the header of the row in the BOM for attribute value selected. The value totals of the attribute selected in Step 2 will form the contents of the row in the BOM.

  5. The default description for the selected attribute is shown in the Description field. You can change it if you wish.

  6. Set the Type, Justification and Format for the total value description. Remember that these settings apply to the header text (i.e., description) for the total values row (see below for more details).

  7. Pick OK to accept the BOM field definition and send it to the Selected attributes list in the VX BOM Format Editor and close the form. You can also pick Apply to do the same thing but leave the form displayed or Cancel to close the form without accepting the BOM field definition.
