CAM Objects

A CAM Plan holds everything necessary to create tool paths and output for VX. The information is stored in a set of CAM Objects, each having its specific role to play in building up the CAM Plan.

Some objects represent things which are not specific to any given project and will be reused very often. Many of these represent physical objects from the shop floor and generally do not change over time (e.g., Machines, Tools, and Speed Feed tables).

Other objects are very specific to a given project, such as those which contain the geometry to be machined (e.g., CAM Components and Features).

Finally, there are those objects which are often reused, but may require some customization for new projects (e.g., setups and approach/retract macros).

It is expected that the CAM Plan will evolve over time as those using it will create more objects which they will be able to re-use. That is, while at first many objects will be created from scratch, they can always be reused as is, or with just minor modifications. The figure below illustrate the VX CAM objects within the CAM plan.
