The Active Session (Advanced)

Advanced features for working with the active session are available when the "Enable session management?" option on the VX Configuration Form is set to Yes. By default, session management is turned off. The advanced active session manages files and objects in the same way with the addition of session management tools that can be accessed by selecting File > Manage Session.

For example, you can save the active session and give it a name by using the Save Session As command. You can then later come back to that session using the Open Session command and continue working. When a session other than the default active session is opened, its name will appear in the VX Title Bar to the left of the active file name.

With the Backup Session command, the active session is backed up to a temporary location so that when you restart VX, say the next day, you can continue where you left off. An auto-backup feature is available from the VX Configuration Form that backs up the active session at predetermined intervals.

Tips & Techniques

It is highly recommended that you become familiar with basic VX operations before using the advanced session management functions. Also review the reference topics listed below.

Tips & TechniquesIt is important to remember that the active session only contains portions of VX files that you are editing (i.e., the file edits) and not the entire contents of each file.

When you perform these session management functions, you are performing them on the
active session and not on VX files.

Tips & TechniquesAlso remember that the undo and redo history is only maintained during the active session and that every time a file in the session is saved, the undo/redo history is reset.
