Options are provided for exporting VX objects to a STEP (Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data) international standard file.
Use the STEP Export Options Form during the File > Export command to set the desired options. You can have your options used automatically by selecting Save STEP Settings from the Export Form.

Short names - Abbreviate long entity names.
Extract sub-curves - This allows for convenient un-trimming to the receiving system to recover the original curve.
Extract sub-surfaces - Similar to extract sub-curves option above with the additional concern for closed surfaces -- particularly spheres used as the base surfaces for corner fillets. By extracting the used-portion of the surface, other systems will have an easier time reconstructing the geometry.
Split closed surfaces - This is similar to extract sub-surfaces option above with the emphasis on the importing system being easier to handle 3D data projection.
No UV-curves - This option prevents the export of the UV (surface) curves. Only the 3D trim loops are exported. For those systems that cannot read UV-curve data, this option may prevent errors for the receiving system.
Specify how VX should export 3D surfaces to the STEP file. Select one of the following:
Assembly - Export all components in the active VX assembly to a STEP assembly maintaining component instancing.
R-Rep - Export all component or closed shapes as B-Rep (Boundary Representation) entities. If the receiving system supports STEP B-Rep, then closed shapes will be received as solids.
Free - Export all (open and closed) shapes as free surfaces. The receiving system will create a set of unconnected surfaces.
You can target the STEP export for either SolidWorks, Unigraphics or AutoCad by selecting the desired system. Select None for a generic STEP export.
At the Part Level, use this option to export relative to the World or the Local coordinate system. Use the Local Coordinate Frame command to create a local coordinate system of your choice.
This sets the default directory for locating
files to import of the specified type. Pick the folder icon to select
a path from the Directory Browser. The path will
be added to the Default Directory Field. The Default directory
field only applies to the active session while
VX is running unless it is permanently saved using the Save Settings
button on the Import Form.
More about the Default Directory
All import/export translators have their own default-directory on their options form. If the default-directory is set, then the Directory Browser will always come up in that directory. If the default-directory is not set, then the file browser will come up in the "last visited" directory.
The last visited directory is not unique. There is one last visited for all import translators and one for all export translators. By default, the value in the Default Directory field is set to '.' which means, use the "last visited" directory. The file icon allows you to browse for a directory which will then be the new default. You can set the Default Directory back to "." by selecting Reset on the form.
OK - Accept the current selections and make them the defaults for the active session (see also Default directory above).
Reset - Return all selections to the previous defaults.
