Insert
Component (Part Level)
![]()
Use this command to insert
a component as a child of the active part. A component can be an instance
(reference) of a part or a copy. You can insert a component from the active
file or from another file.
The required inputs include the part to insert and where to locate it in the active assembly. Optional inputs include forcing the component to regenerate automatically when its parent part is regenerated, using the component's default handles and flagging it for deletion if its parent (i.e., the active assembly) is deleted.
File/Part - Select the VX file and part to insert. The active file is selected by default. The list shows the parts in the selected file.
Preview - Sets the preview mode for selected parts (e.g., Off, Graphics or Attributes) similar to the Object Browser.
Location - Select an insertion point. If you right-click and select Critical as the input option, and then press F7, you can snap to critical points on existing components.
Frame - Aligns the X,Y,Z directions of the component's default frame (i.e., its world origin) with a selected datum plane or face. This is for alignment only. The component's position will be determined by the Location input above.
Align
after insertion - If the part you are inserting contains alignment
handles, check this box to use them during insertion. You'll be prompted
for alignment input based on the type of handles it contains. If this
box is not checked, the handles will be ignored.
If no handles are present and this box is checked, the Align
Components command is launched automatically. If a new component in
created (see Part input above), this option is ignored.
Anchor component - Anchor the component at the world
origin using an anchor constraint.
Show
dynamic preview - See the component dynamically echo on the screen
as it is being inserted.
Regen
-
Select from one
of the following options:
None - the component is not regenerated when its parent is regenerated.
At insertion - the component is regenerated when the operation
that inserts it is regenerated.
At end - the component is regenerated at the end of the regen
of its parent part/assembly. Components
will be regenerated sequentially according to their order of insertion.
It is assumed
that components do not reference each other.
Auto Delete - The inserted component will be deleted when its parent part is deleted.
Copy part - If checked, a copy of the original part is first created and then the copy is instanced into the active assembly instead of the original. The copy is not associated with the original component and will not change if the original changes. If the copy is modified however, the component instance of the copy will update accordingly.
File - If Copy part above is checked, select the VX file to receive the copy. You can enter the file name or pick the folder icon to use the File Browser.
Part - If Copy part above is checked, enter a name for the new part.
Component - Enter a name for the inserted component.
Tips & Techniques (Non-Graphic Components)

This information will then be listed in the assembly's Parts List and Bill of Materials. If the non-graphic part is created with default datum planes, these datum planes must be deleted or VX will not recognize the part as "non-graphic" (i.e. non-geometric). |
You can also insert a component by right-clicking on a component in the Assembly Manager tree and selecting Insert. It will be inserted as a child of the component.
