Quick DimensionUse this command to create a dimension by selecting an entity or picking dimension points. Six different dimension types can be created with this command depending on the entities, points, and command options selected (see below). Tangent arcs/circles are dimensioned with the 2 Point method. Smart Pick is automatically invoked during this command.
 

2 Point Dimensions

 

  1. Select the first point or arc/circle tangent to dimension from.

  2. Select the second point or arc/circle tangent to dimension to.

  3. Drag to select the dimension type (horizontal, vertical, aligned, or tangent) and to locate the dimension text.

 
In the example shown below, points 1,4,5,7 and 10 are used to create point dimensions.

See VX Note.If one of the dimension points is a tangent arc/circle then a point is created on the arc/circle and two constraints are placed on the point. One to constrain the point on the arc/circle Constrain Points to Curve3101.gif and one to constrain the point relative to the baseline Constrain Point to Line - Base Point Option 3126.gif .

 

 

Line Dimensions

 

  1. Select the line to dimension from.

  2. Drag to select the dimension type (e.g., horizontal, vertical, or aligned) and to locate the dimension text.

Parallel Offset Dimensions

 

  1. Select the first parallel line to dimension from.

  2. Selected select the second parallel line to dimension to.

  3. Drag to locate the dimension text.

 

 

Radius Dimensions

 

Dimensioning a fillet:

  1. Select the fillet to dimension.

  2. Drag to locate the dimension text.

     

Dimensioning a circle:

  1. Pick the Rad/Dia option and set the mode to Radius.

  2. Select the circle to dimension.

  3. Drag to locate the dimension text.
     

 

Dimensioning a curve:

  1. Pick the Rad/Dia command option and set the mode to Smart.

  2. Select the curve on the segment you wish to dimension. 

  3. Drag to locate the dimension text.

 

 

Diameter Dimensions

 

Dimensioning a circle:

  1. Pick the Rad/Dia command option and set the mode to Diameter.  

  2. Select the circle to dimension. 

  3. Drag to locate the dimension text.

     

Dimensioning a fillet:

  1. Pick the Rad/Dia command option and set the mode to Radius.

  2. Select the fillet to dimension.

  3. Drag to locate the dimension text.
     

 

Angular Dimensions

 

Angle dimension between 2 lines:

  1. Select the first line near the end to dimension. 

  2. Select the second line near the end to dimension.

  3. Drag to locate the dimension text.

     

Horizontal or vertical angle dimension:

  1. Right-click and select Angular Dim. from the Input Options Menu.

  2. Select the line to dimension.

  3. Drag to select the dimension type (horizontal or vertical) and to locate the dimension text.

Placement

Center TextDo not Center Text

Select the icon to either center or not center the dimension text between the extension lines. If not center is selected, the dimension location point will also dynamically locate the text.

 

Text

Use this option to determine how the text of the dimension is generated. Select from the following:

 

 

User text

Defines the dimension text that is displayed instead of the actual dimension value. Used in conjunction with the User Text option above. Enter the user text in the field provided. You can also right-click in the graphics window to activate the Text and Dimension Editor. It provides additional options for creating special characters and symbols within the text.
