Extend Base Surface
Edit
Face
Modify NURBS
Use this command to extend the base surface (underlying geometry)
of a face. The trim boundaries of the face are not affected. Use the Extend a Face command to extend the trim boundary
of a face.
Surface
Select the faces for surfaces to extend.
Direction
Select the edges in the U direction of the base surface to
extend or pick OK to accept the current default.
Neither - Do not extend in the U direction.
Lo_U - Extend the edge located at the low U parameter value.
Hi_U - Extend the edge located at the high U parameter value.
Both - Extend edges in both U parameter directions.
Distance
Specify the distance to extend in the U direction. Use the Length option (see below) to specify either a distance or a percentage to extend. This prompt is skipped if the Neither option above is selected.
Direction
Select the edges in the V direction to extend or pick OK to accept the current default. See above for each option.
Distance
Specify the distance to extend in the V direction.
Shape
Use this option to control the path of extended curves and surfaces.
Linear - the extension follows a linear path away from the end in the direction of the tangent, but they do not match curvature. This causes among other things visual discontinuity.
Circular - the extension follows a circular path in the direction of curvature. This is nice because it matches the existing curvature, but if you extend too far it will bend back around opposite to the tangent direction. If you want to extend out to some other curve or surface you may not ever get there.
Curvature diminishing - allows you to keep the nice properties of both Linear and Circular. It matches curvature at the end and because the curvature reduces, it eventually becomes linear and heads away from the curve or surface end.

Length
Select the method for specifying the extension length.
Distance - Enter the exact distance value.
Percentage - Enter a percentage of the entire shape.
