Edit Dimension Value (3D) Updated for the current release.

Use this command to edit a dimension that defines a feature.  A pop-up editor (see below) is displayed at the cursor location for quick and easy editing.  Sketch dimensions and locked sketch dimensions can also be edited with this command by double-right-clicking on the sketch dimension. Dimension edits to locked sketch dimensions are logged into the active part’s history as "Dim Mode" operations.  

 

You can also modify a 3D part dimension from a layout view on a drawing sheet.  See Modify Part Dimension from Drawing for more information.

 

Basic Procedure

 

  1. After selecting Edit go to Dimension Value from the pull down menu, select the dimension to modify. You can right-click to display an Input Options Menu with options to filter the displayed dimensions.  You can also set the Pick Filter to Dimensions and simply double-left-click a dimension to modify it.
     

  2. Enter a new dimension value in the Text Input Field or use the Input Dimension Value Form (see below) for more options.  You can use this form to enter dimensions, variable, or expressions.

Dimension value field

You can enter the new dimension value here or use the Get Dimension or Get Variable icons to build an expression.  See Equations and Expressions for more information about how to build expressions.

 

Increment/Decrement Buttons

Use these icons to increase (+) or decrease (-) the value in the Dimension value field (see above).  The change in value is based on the current step size.  Select the Step Size Button to change the current step size.

  

Use this icon to display and activate the Dimension Value field on the command's Input Option form.

 

Show dimensions from part

Get Dimension

Select a dimension from the active part or press and hold the F7 key to select an external dimension.  The dimension name will be appended to the Dimension value field (see above).  The name of the root object the dimension belongs to is automatically appended to the dimension name. See Variable Naming Conventions for more information.

 

Show text from part

Get Variable

Select a variable from the Variable Browser.  The variable name will be appended to the Dimension value field (see above).  If the variable belongs to a root object other than the active root object, the name of the root object that the variable belongs to is automatically appended to the variable name.  See Variable Naming Conventions for more information.

 

 

Delay solve New in VX

Check this box to delay solving the sketch until the next Solve Current Sketch is executed.  If not checked, each modified dimension value is shown in [ ] and the sketch is not updated.

 

By default, when you modify a dimension value using this command, it will take affect during the next part regeneration.  This allows you to modify multiple dimensions before regenerating.  You can force the part regenerate by selecting this icon.  See CAD Tips & Techniques - When you should regenerate the part history for tips about part regeneration.

 

OK, Cancel

Pick OK to modify the selected dimension or Cancel to close the form and cancel the command.
