Insert Sketch

Insert
Sketch (Part/CAM
Level)
Use this command to insert a new part sketch. A part sketch is one that resides at the part level. Sketches can also be root objects and reside at the object level like a part or drawing packet. These are referred to as Root Sketches.
The insertion plane is the only required input. The optional inputs include the up direction, the plan origin, reference face edges and the ability to orient the sketch to the active view.
Plane
Select an insertion plane to locate the sketch. It can be a datum plane or a part face. The new sketch is activated for editing.
Up
Select the Up direction of the sketch plane or middle-click to use the default direction of the insertion plane.
Origin
Select a point to define the XY origin of the sketch plane or middle-click to accept the default origin of the selected plane.

Reference face edges
Check this box if you want face edges automatically referenced into the sketch when the sketch is created on a face.
Orient the active view
Check this box if you want the sketch plan automatically oriented with the active view.
