Named Section Feature
Insert
Wireframe
Use this command to create a named section
feature through the active part. The
section will consist of wireframe geometry (e.g., lines, arcs, curves,
etc.) that lie on the surface of the part. This
feature is used in conjunction with the Insert Section
View command at the Drawing Sheet Level.
A sketched profile is used to determine the location and extent of the section through the part. The profile will cut through the part in a direction that is perpendicular to the sketch plane. You can create the sketch beforehand or during this command.
If the profile consists of lines with zero or more bend points at 90 degrees:
The section curves will be co-planar.
The feature can be selected during the Insert Section View command to place the section view on a drawing sheet. During the Insert Section View command, the 3D Named type is selected and the 3D Name input is to this feature.
If the profile consists of lines with bend points at other than 90 degrees:
The section curves will be co-planar.
The feature can also be selected during the Insert Section View command. However, during the command, the Bent type is selected and the 3D Name input is to this feature.
If the profile has curvature (i.e., curves, arcs):
The profile will still project and create section curves.
The named section can not be used as a section view on a drawing sheet.
Name
Enter a name for the section or middle-click for a system-generated name. You should enter a name here that you will remember. If the sketch adheres to the rules listed above, the feature name will appear on the list of available sections during the Insert Section View command (3D Named and Bent section types) at the Drawing Sheet Level.
