Operations
Directive (CAM Level)
Currently, Directive
Operations refers to the Inter
Path Move operation.
Refer to the Inter Path Move operation below for more information.
How
to Define Directive Operations
In the CAM
Plan Manager, right-click on Operations,
select Insert and then select
the Directive tab from the Operation Type Form. When
you select an operation, it will be added to the manager tree.
In the manager tree, select Parameters under the operation you just
added and set them using the definition form provided. Pick
Accept when you are done.
See Inter Path Move Operation Form Parameters below for more information.
The Inter Path Move operation is provided so that you can create safe moves when a tool moves between tool paths. The result will be either a 3 axis or 5 axis motion sequence from the end of the previous tool path to the start of the following tool path.
An Example of the Tree Display for an Inter Path Move Operation looks like this:

If an Inter Path Move Operation is created by selecting an existing operation and using the Insert Op Before or Insert Op Before command, the tool used by the existing operation will be inherited by the new Inter Path MoveOperation.
The Geometry used by the Inter Path MoveOperation for collision avoidance is all of the surface and solid Geometry in the Setup.
Frames, Speeds and Feeds
All motions utilize the “Traversal” feed rate.
Frame - This sets the alternate coordinate system defined within the setup for this operation.
Speeds Feeds - Pick this button to set the speed/feed values for this operation's tool motions using the CAM Speed Feed Manager Form. The name of the operation is also displayed to the right.
Other
Safety Distance
This is the safe avoidance distance from all clamps, table, part and stock.
Home Point
Home Point (optional) = Specify only if there is either no preceding or following tool.
Home Axis
If there is either no preceding or flowing tool path, the Inter Path Move Operation tool orientation will either begin or end at this Home Axis.
Notes
If the Inter
Path Move Operation is inserted between two tool paths, the first
tool Home Point and Home Axis will be obtained from the last point and
axis from the preceding tool path. The
last point and tool orientation will be obtained from the start of the
following tool path.
If there is no tool path preceding
an Inter Path Move Operation,
the resulting tool motion will usually be a motion directly from a clearance
location to the start point in the following tool path. (see Home Point
and Home Axis below)
The tool axis is maintained.
For best performance, these Operations
should be added after major Operations for cutting the part have already
been created.
When the Operations commands “Calculate All” or “Calculate Missing” are used, computation is more efficient because the geometry analysis for collision avoidance is done only once for all Inter Path Move Operations.
