Spiral Solid

Shapes (Advanced)

Create a spiral solid base feature by revolving
a closed profile about an axis and along a linear direction. This
can be used to make threads or any other shape that is revolved in a linear
direction such as springs and coils.

|
|
Base - Use this to define the initial basic shape of a part. If geometry exists, this method creates a separate base shape. |
|
|
Add - This method adds material to the active part. |
|
|
Remove - This method removes material from the active part. |
|
|
Intersect - This method returns the intersection of material with the active part. |
Profile - Select a profile for the spiral solid. You can use wireframe geometry, face edges, a sketch or a curve list.
Axis - Select the spiral axis. You can select a line or linear face edge. An arrow will appear indicating the axis and direction.
Turns - Specify the number of turns.
Distance - Specify the distance along the axis for each turn. A positive distance will be measured in the direction of the axis arrow.
Taper
You can specify a taper angle to create pipe threads, tapered coils, etc.
Lead
Specify the lead in/out option. Select from the following:
In - Transitions the spiral in toward the center of the axis for spiral solids and threaded bosses.
Out - Transitions the spiral out away from the center of the axis for threaded cuts.
None - No lead in/out applied.
Radius, Angle
If In or Out is selected from the Lead option above, specify the radius and angle of the transition. The radius determines a pivot point while the angle specifies the number of degrees the profile is rotated. For lead Out, the angle is measured from the point on the profile furthest away from the axis of rotation. For lead In, the point closest to the axis is used.
End
If In or Out is selected from the Lead option above, specify which ends of the feature should receive the lead in/out. Select Start, End or Both.
Revolve clockwise
Check this box if you want the spiral to turn clockwise about the axis direction.
Offset, 1st offset, 2nd offset
Specify an offset method and distance(s) to be applied to curves, curve lists, or open or closed sketched profiles. This option adds thickness to the feature automatically.
None
Shrink/Expand - Create an offset by shrinking or expanding the profile. A negative (-) value expands to the outer side and a positive (+) value shrinks to the inner side of the profile.
Thicken - Create a thickness from the profile determined by two distance values. The first shrinks the profile toward the inner side. The second expands the profile toward the outer side.
Thicken Same - Create a symmetrical
thickness about the profile. The
total thickness equals 2 times the distance.
