Options : Display
![]()
Default settings give the best result for most of graphic cards.
Tick-off a box could solve a problem but decrease more or less performances.
The "limit display lists size 4096 triangles" offers best results to NVIDIA (TNT2, GeForce family ,Quadro).
It is recommended to inactive Windows menus effects if there are graphical problems with TopSolid menus.
Initialization :
Use directX hardware acceleration :
This option, (ticked-on) allows to use DirectX (hardware acceleration) for some Missler Software modules that need it (TopPunch for example).
Use OpenGL hardware acceleration :
This option (ticked-on) activate graphic card hardware acceleration.
If you deactivate this option, hardware acceleration will be completely deactivated. In that case, this is the microprocessor that calculate dynamic moving.
This option allows to quickly check if stability problems or fatal errors come from a graphic problem (graphic card driver or TopSolid graphic configuration).
Use one OpenGL context per view :
You have to tick-off this option in case a fatal error occurs when you switch to multi-view mode or you open several files (rare).
Initialize OpenGL at start :
You have to tick-off this option in case a fatal error occurs when you open a new without template file (rare).
Enable OpenGL partial double buffer :
This option (supported by most of 32Mo and more graphic cards) allows to redraw modified only area instead of redraw the entire view.
You have to deactivate this option in the case drop-down lists stay displayed or selection echo stay displayed (redraw problems).
Allows automatic detection:
TopSolid ask to the graphic cards if it is able to support this optimized
mode.
Allows you to impose this
mode (case where the graphic card abilities can not be automatically detected
and you want to try if it is supported)
Allows you to inactive the
optimized mode.
Use OpenGL to draw wireframe :
If this option is inactive (ticked-off) wireframe is calculated by directX and windows standard.
It is recommended to inactive this option if you are working with big 2D files most of the time. In compensation 3D wireframe rendering will be less fast.
You can deactivate this option if you have got an old video card slow with openGL.
Use hardware acceleration to print :
This option have to be activated by default to print the more faster as possible when you use the render mode.
In some case, with old graphic cards, the result can be bad, so tick off this option.
Stereo :
This option activate stereographic visualization which create a very realistic 3D effect and very useful to check a mould for example.
For graphics cards with low memory size, it may be necessary to activate "shared Z-buffer" option.
The stereographic visualization require specific glasses and a graphic cards which include the functionality.
You can get detailed information on www.stereografics.com
Defaut parallax :
This option allows to increase depth effect and fit to vision of each of us.
Values have to be between 0.5 and 3.
Performances :
Use optimized line drawing :
This option is inactive by default because of a little display problem with circle using dash line type. (some cards only).

If you do not have this problem with your card, you can activate this option.
Transfert data by blocks :
You have to deactivate this option in case no elements are displayed (rare and only with old graphic cards).
Use fast text drawing :
You have to desactivate this option in case texts are not well displayed.
In some cases letters can be replaced by simple squares.
Fill display lists by blocks :
You have to deactivate this option in case you can see an explosion effect in shading render mode: faces are broken in small triangles.
It can also be deactivate in case some faces are not displayed.
Limit display lists size: 4096 triangles :
The "limit display lists size 4096 triangles" offers best results for nVidia processors (TNT2, GeForce family ,Quadro).
Use accelerated texture transfer :
You have to deactivate this option for old graphic cards when textures are not displayed correctly.
Convert texture to 32 bits :
You have to activate (tick-on) this option if there is a colour problem with textures.
Compress texture :
This option is supported by nVidia graphic cards and most of recent cards.
You have to deactivate this option if there is a display problem with textures (realistic rendering only).
Drawing optimizations :
Options described below are useful for TopDraft document
only.
Enable screen saving for fast display redraw :
This option allows to save a bitmap of the view in order to save time during the dynamic displacement of elements, in this case only moved elements are re-comptuted.
Use wireframe direct drawing :
This option allows to redraw only moved elements, in this case a small default will appear at the original location of the moved element, the next redraw will remove this default.

Enable fast overlay initialisation :
This option is available just when the "Enable screen saving for fast display redraw" option is ticked on, it allows to store a part of the image in a specific memory area of the graphic card called Z-buffer in order to accelerate the image redrawing.
Document updating during dynamic displacement :
These options allows to manage the element regeneration during a dynamic displacement, let's take the example the case of the displacement of a point used in a contour :
Option "Always uptodate during dynamic displacement" : The contour is dynamically updated during the point displacement.
Option "Uptodate document if necessary during dynamic displacement" : Only useful elements are dynamically updated during the point displacement.
Option "Never uptodate during dynamic displacement" : The contour is updated at the end of the point displacement.
