The simplification cursor
![]()
Presentation : ![]()
The simplification cursor is represented by a red arrows in dashed line type followed by two values :
The first value indicate the number of simplified operation.
The second value indicate the total number of the part.
The simplification cursor allows choosing the part simplification level in the assembly. This is very interesting to lighten big assemblies.
To display this cursor, you have to choose "Create simplification cursor" in the contextual menu that appears when you perform a right click mouse on the part's name. This cursor is displayed just below the insertion cursor.
You can move this cursor like the insertion cursor, you just have to pick on the cursor and drag it until the desired operation. You can also choose the "Modify" function in the contextual menu that appears when you do a right click mouse on the cursor.

Option |
Description |
|
TOP |
to go directly to the top of the tree. |
|
UP |
to go to the operation above the cursor. |
|
DOWN |
to go to the operation below the cursor. |
|
BOTTOM |
to go to the bottom of the tree. |
|
Insertion operation |
to locate the cursor by picking on an operation (the cursor will be located above the picked operation). |
Once the simplification cursor is pulled down, TopSolid manages two representations of the part; the representation type (Detailed or Simplified) is displayed between parentheses after the part's name. It’s possible to switch from one representation to another using the contextual menu that appears when you do a right click with the mouse on the part's name.

In detailed representation all the operations are displayed. |

To lighten the assembly, the following part had a simplified representation with only the holes used to position other parts. |

Choose the SET OF ELEMENTS IN SIMPLIFIED REPRESENTATION to get the list of all the parts in simplified representation of your document.
Choose the SET OF ELEMENT WITH 2 REPRESENTATIONS (detailed and simplified) to get the list of all the parts with 2 representations of your document.
The analysis functions
always works with the detailed representation, so if you analyze the volume
of a simplified part, TopSolid will give you the volume of the detailed
part.
Drafting :
When you create the main view with the
, you can choose the representation of the projected view
using the ADVANCED
OPTION button.
The View | Change representation allows to modify the representation of an existing view.
Delete the simplified representation
:
You can delete the simplified representation of your part by pulling up the simplification cursor at the top of the tree or by choosing "Remove simplified representation" in the contextual menu that appears when you do a right click mouse on the part's name.
A warning message will be displayed and a confirmation will be asked because, in the assembly document, the positioning of element on part in simplified representation will became invalid.
Limitations :
You can't add operations on a part in simplified representation
but you can modify the existing ones.
Only operations located at the top of the tree can be
simplified, so you have to design your part by creating operations to
simplify at the end of the conception. Use the function Shape
| Other operations | Define representation to manually manage two
representations.
