Menu access : Shape | Mechanical / other operations | Name
Description :
Allows you to give names to faces or edges of shapes. These faces or edges named can be used in an assembly for example in order to make a positioning more reliable in case of modification of the original model of the part.
![]()
Principle:
This function proves to be useful if you wish to interchange two versions of a standard component or to change the model file of a part assembled without losing its positioning.
To do this, it is necessary:
that the two versions of the part are named with identical by using the Edit | Name function on the part in each model file.
that the faces and edges used for positioning are named identically in each file with the Shape | Other operations | Name.
Once the elements and entities have been named, you can:
in the case of a standard component: use the function "Modify" on the component then use the option INTERCHANGE to choose the new version of the standard component.
in the case of an assembled part: use the function " File | Reroute" to indicate the new file to be used in the place of the present in the assembly.
General Philosophy :
Select the edge or face to name.
Enter its name.
Repeat the steps 1 et 2 for the other fades or edges you wish to name.
Confirm the names given with the button APPLY NAME .
Specific point(s) :
When assembling an element that has
named faces, they are displayed red when the mouse moves above the shape.
