The icons bar

Another way to choose a function is to use the appropriate function in the icons bar.

In TopSolid, you will find two families of icons bar, the one to access to functions also available in menus (called menu icons bar) and the one of functions exclusively available using icons (called system icons bar).

Like all other Windows native software, when you let your cursor float over an icon for a few second, a tool tip displaying the name of the function appear :

You can place them docked (like you can see them in starting TopSolid) or detached (floating).

The System bar :

This bar (horizontal bar located just under the menus bar) contains the most frequently used functions of TopSolid'Design and its module (TopSolid'Mold, ...), you can also find the visualization functions (zoom, view, render) and the attribute icon palettes (colour, line type, pattern and marker).

Context bar / Work bar :

Functions are grouped into icons bar named context, the context bar (vertical icons bar located on the left of the screen) allows to change the functions displayed in the work bar (horizontal icons bar located under the system icon bar), with some module like TopSolid'Cam, the displayed menus are also modified when you change the current context.

The icons of the current context and function are highlighted, furthermore, some contexts as Curve, Shapes and Assembly get a default function (the launching of the default function is done when you select one of these contexts).

Example of a function launching :

To run the Drilling function you have to choose the "Shapes" context in the context icons bar and then choose the Drilling function in the Work bar.

"System" icon bar :

The functions you can access using the "system" icons bar (usually on the left of your TopSolid screen) have some specificities:

Moving icon bar :

When these icon bars are docked, you can select the icon bar and drag it to another location. In order to do that, you need to select a point close to the border of the icon bar. When the icon bar is detached (or free in the graphic area), you can drag it by selecting its title.

There are also some interesting keyboard shortcuts to make the organization of floating icon bars and menus easier:

Popup icon bar :

It is important to note that some of these icons in the System icon bar have a triangle on their right. That triangle means there is a list of different icon functions available as an alternative option to the current icon. To access these other icons, click on the black triangle. After selecting one of the alternative icons in the list, it will take the place of the current one.

Example of pop-up icon bar :

When the icon list is displayed:

The Attributes icon bar :

  • This palette displays the current values of the attribute : colour, marker type, line type and thickness, cross-hatching pattern.

  • Click on one button of this palette allows to change the attribute of one or several elements.

  • Click on the small triangle located on the right of each icon or make a right click on a icon allows to open the attribute palette. When a palette has been opened :

  • a simple click allows to change the current value of the button.

  • a right click allows to run the function that change the attribute value of an element without changing the current value of the button.
