Gear joint

Menu access : Kinematics | Joint

Description :

Allows you to create a gear joint between two elements.

General philosophy:

  1. Choose in the list:

  1. Select the base element.

  2. Select the linked element.

  3. Indicate the rotation axis (oriented) of the first gear of the joint.

  4. Indicate the rotation axis (oriented) of the second gear of the joint.

  5. Enter the gear ratio.

Specific point(s):

Usually, you will have two elements linked to the frame using a pivot joint.

You can invert the direction of rotation by changing the sign of the gear ratio.

In case of an outside gear, both rotation axes must be in opposite direction.

In case of an inside gear, both rotation axes must be in same direction.

The gear joints allows you to also create a belt joint. The gear will have the same direction of rotation.

Gear components are available in the TopSolid components standard library.

The driven joint(s) must be the only ones named before the creation of the scenario. They will be the only ones to appear on the scenario. You can give a name to the other joints in the symbolic tree.
