Understanding the function

Generally speaking, the part is designed in a different document from that of the machining document.  The original document (the document containing the part) can be a ‘.top’ or a ‘.wir’ document. The positioning function’s aim is to position a part on the machine’s table to make it machinable.

The button appears ONLY if the TopSolid/Wire document a part is already here. In this case, it's possible to use again this part with another positioning with this button.

How to use

  1. Open the document presenting the finished part.

  2. Open a new document (the machining document itself).

  3. Select the machine.  The machine must be equipped with the necessary parts for the positioning operation (table, vice, chuck, stops, etc.).  If these elements are not present on the machine, they can be added later.  However, they must be added before positioning.

  4. Select the menu  "Part | Part clamping | Table and stop(s)" or click on the  . icon.

  5. Select entities (solids, profiles, surfaces) to be positioned.

  6. Select in the first file a planar face which will be in contact with the table.

  7. Select in the new TopSolid/Wire document, the planar face which defines the table.

  8. Select in the first file a planar  face which will be in contact with the stop.

  9. Select in the new TopSolid/Wire document, the planar face which defines the stop.

  10. If the user stops here, the part  will be oriented by default.

  11. If the user wants to align the part, select in the first file the planar face to align.

  12. Select in the new TopSolid/Wire document, the planar face to use for the alignment.

  13. The select entities (solids, profiles, surfaces) are copied in the new document in the vise.
