Transformation by unbending

Menu Access:

Progressive die | Part | Transformation by unbending

Description:

This function duplicates a piece of the part by applying a transformation corresponding to the unbending of a cylindrical face that is assimilated with a bend. You can indicate a neutral fiber coefficient to adjust the transformation.

Use this function for unbend the part "step by step", especially when the bending operations realize formings simultaneously.

General procedure:

  1. Select the boundary edges of the piece of the part to remove.

  2. Select a face on the piece of the part to remove.

  3. Do the same on the piece of the part to transform.

  4. Select the template bend face, and the fixed edge of the bend.

Warning: the bend face you choose must be on a cylindrical surface.

  1. Choose the unbending mode, partial or completed.

  2. Lastly, determine the neutral fiber coefficient.

  3. All that remains now is to fill in the "gaps" and sew all the faces to obtain a solid once again.

Available option(s):

IMPRINT AN EDGE ON PART creates a missing edge on the part that will be included in the selection of boundary edges. This option is the same as the TopSolid'Design cut face function or the TopSolid'Progress cut face function.

Continue automatically = YES automatically extends the edges selected on the part.

Check if selection of edges is closed = YES  allows you to view holes on the contour created by the selected edges if the selection is not closed. They are marked by red dots.

COMPLETE ANGLE allows you to flatten totally the bend selected.

In the case of a partial unbending, you can use the dropdown menu below to choose "which side" to start unbending.

Partial angle = 10° gives the value of the angle to unbend. Choose the value of the additional bending angle or angle to remove.

Neutral fiber coefficient = 0.5 gives the neutral fiber coefficient to apply on the unbending.

Particular remark(s):

This function is non-associative.

It is is available in a TopSolid'Design document: Progressive die | Transformation by unbending
