There is a case where you can insert a plate without the presence of a superior plate: When inserting a plate on top of the clamping plates:
on ASide.
Select the support plate (Clamping plate ASide)
OK without selecting the superior plate.
on BSide
Select the support plate (Clamping plate BSide)
OK without selecting the superior plate.
