General

Purpose

These functions will allow creating multiple parts in the same rough. They also allow to duplicate a logical part (Finish + Rough) and the attached operations, or both.

It is common that we wish to position more than one part on the machine’s table. The created machining operations on the part will have to be copied on the other identical parts.

Understanding the function

Part Propagation

Part propagation creates virtual copies of the current part.  Whether defined from the current part or from one of its copies, all machining operations for the part are automatically duplicated on all original and copied parts.  Operations defined after a propagation operation are also reproduced.

To free memory space, there is no physical copy of the current part.  Only a current part’s “image” remains visible.

Each part contains an origin and a positioning point; both points are duplicated by the propagation operation.  Once the points are duplicated, TopSolid'Cam checks that the new positioning for propagated parts is compatible with the machine tool’s capacity.

Afterwards, it is possible to modify the positioning origin for a propagated part.  To do this, the user must carry out the following modifications

Call the “Wcs / List” function or click on the icon .

  1. Select the Wcs to be modified.

  2. Press the Editing button.

  3. Select the parameters tab.

  4. Deactivate the “By Default” checkbox.

  5. Press the “Selection” button

How to use

  1. Select in the Part menu the Propagation creation function

  2. Select a transformation to apply (Translation, rotation or mirror)

  3. Set all the parameters related to the transformation wanted

  4. Select the part to propagate (duplicate)

The following illustration displays the tree of the machining operations before and after the propagation:
