High Speed Machining smoothing

Sudden changes in direction can be automatically limited to avoid abrupt machining moves, by adding loops on pass changes and fillets on the tool path. Please note that these loops and fillets can only be cancelled or modified by launching total machining calculation, once more.

Loop (end of pass)

Tick this checkbox to add end pass loops. The loops’ radius value is defined in the ‘High speed machining radius’ field.

Circular

Tick this checkbox to modify the tool path in order to smooth the latter’s reflex angles. TopSolid'Cam replaces all reflex angles with a radius of a value defined in the ‘High speed machining radius’ field.

High speed machining radius

This value defines the end pass loop radius as well as the rounded tool path.

The ‘Optimisation’ function from the ‘Milling / 3D operation / Optimization’ menu also allows the user to add pitch change loops and to smooth down the path by smoothing down the reflex angles. This function performs tool path modifications, at a later period, with the possibility of cancelling or modifying the loop radius value. Therefore, it is advisable to use the optimisation function to modify the tool path, rather than the machining creation function.
