Manually removes all material perpendicular to one or several sides, between the finished part and the stock model, using the mouse. The user visually defines the tool path by pointing the mouse on the side(s) to be machined. At the end of the machining operation, the stock model is updated..

Facing operations carried out with the help of a mouse is a MANUAL function. The user has complete control over the tool path and its quality. There are several functions within TopSolid'Cam to help the user perform this operation. The main ones are:
automatic support on a side to avoid collisions
calculation of the facing operation’s altitude, relative to the altitude of the side to be created.
angular lock on the tool path to obtain “neat” tool paths.
generation of several deep passes, without drawing the whole tool path once more.
There are 2 necessary main steps:
Creating the Operation
Select the
menu "Milling | Facing | Mouse facing" or click the icon
.
If there are several parts, indicate the part to machine..
Specify the side of the model to be created on which will be set the facing operation. The side’s altitude determines the facing operation’s altitude (depending on the thickness).
Select the tool to use for the operation.
Specify the different parameters in the tab dialogue box which appears.
Enter the comment which appears on the machine block listing meant for the NC operator. This comment will also appear when the user wishes to take a look at or modify an operation, using the Operation/ Operations manager function.
Eventually, enter a codified remark which will be interpreted by the post-processor, in a specific manner predefined by the user and the post-processor redactor.
Validate entries made into the dialogue box by clicking on OK.
For the points definition it's possible to :
Finish the operation with the Stop button to visualize the tool path.
Editing the Operation
Select the menu "Operations / Operations manager".
Edit the mouse facing operation.
Select the required modification:
Modify, cancel or add points to the tool path.
Move a tool path section.
Modify a feed rate.
Create, modify or cancel a sequence.
Click on the Quit edition button to validate the modifications
