Removes all material perpendicular to a side, between the finished part and the stock model, by extending it to the horizontal limits of the stock model and by respecting possible islands.
TopSolid'Cam advises a certain number of passes in Z, relative to the quantity of material to be removed and the cutting conditions of the tool called.

The facing cycle controls simple and complex contour sides. The user specifies a side that is automatically extended to the first limits reached for the stock model.
The algorithm controls possible island juxtaposition for the side on which a facing is to be applied, by preventing tool passage. The algorithm also controls corners for which the minimum radius is smaller than the tool radius. In both cases, TopSolid'Cam generates rest material that will be automatically recognized by subsequent rework machining operations.
When machining parameters are entered in the dialogue boxes, the actual machinable area is visualized through an interactive hatching.
A facing operation implies descending moves outside the material! However, several descending modes are available, relative to the tool the user chooses. For a vertical descent into the material, in rapid or work feed rate, the user can define a descent point or use one offered by TopSolid'Cam.
Topologic mode
Specify the side of the model to be machined.
Validate the “Facing” choice.
Choose the tool necessary for the operation.
This option is available when the topologic analysis engine detects a horizontal side with edges corresponding to vertical, sloped or descending sides. This operation is carried out, relative to the current positioning.
Islands found in the middle of this side are also automatically detected.
Automatic mode
Specify the profile on which the facing operation will be applied.
Specify the side of the model to be created and on which will be set the facing operation or specify the altitude’s value, from which the operation will be executed.
Choose the necessary tool for the operation.
The user can later click on the “Info” button to obtain information on the geometrical characteristics of the side to be created (surface area, minimum radius, total height, etc.).
