Engraves a text or profiles by removing all material perpendicular to the profiles until a preset depth is reached, and defined relative to the finished surface of the part to be engraved.
TopSolid'Cam advises a certain number of passes in Z, relative to the quantity of material to be removed and the cutting conditions of the tool called.

The user can perform an engraving operation from several contours and/or several texts. For texts, TopSolid'Cam first transforms the latter into a set of contours.
TopSolid'Cam uses assigned contours as the tool center path. The corresponding recess’s depth left by the tool and the bottom thickness defined in the main tab are due to the Z level used by the tool path. Bottom thickness must have a negative value to leave a recess on the side on which the engraving operation is to be carried out. Therefore, collision control will provide a collision list containing all the engraving operation’s tool paths. This is normal.
Engraving width is relative to tool geometry and to bottom thickness value. A 2-sized milling cutter will create a recess with a width equal to its diameter.
