Purpose

Remove all the material along a face, between the rough and the finished part, all the way to the vertical extent of the rough.

TopSolid'Cam favors a number of Z passes depending on the quantity of material to remove or the cutter settings of the selected tool.

Understanding the function

The Topologic analysis engine searches for all faces linked to the face selected by the user, in order to define a closed contour, when possible.

The encountered faces are automatically extended to the superior and inferior extent of the rough. The start point of the Contouring operation is always offered at the middle of the face selected by the operator. However it is possible to redefine the new entry point (As well as the approach strategy) can be edited in the operation dialog.

The algorithm manages corners with a minimum radius smaller than the tool’s radius. In that case, TopSolid'Cam will leave leftover material that will be detected by the later machining operations.

When setting the machining parameters in the dialog box, the machined area can be displayed with an interactive X hatched area.

This operation will create descents in and out of the material !

However, many descent modes are available and can be specified by the operator. In the case of a vertical descent within the material, in a rapid or work feed, the user can specify the descent point or select the default point computed by TopSolid'Cam.

How to use

Topologic mode

  1. Select the face of the part to machine

  2. Confirm the ’Contouring’ operation

  3. Select the tool to use for the operation.

This selection is available whenever the topologic analysis engine detects one or more faces, vertical or inclined, or when the user selects the ‘Contouring’ function in the automatic mode

Automatic mode

  1. Select the curve to contour mill

  2. Select the reference face on which the contouring will occur, or input an altitude for the location of the tool path.

  3. Select the tool to use for the operation.

The user can eventually click on the ‘Info’ button in order to know the geometrical characteristics of the face to machine (Area, minimum radius, total height, etc..).
