HSM tool path
Previous / Next:
![]()
Of course, in lots of tool paths, it's possible to define HMS parameters to have more fluid tool path.
Constant Peripheral feed rate
This checkbox allows the user to indicate whether he wishes to program a constant peripheral feed rate. In such a case, when there is a circular tool path, TopSolid'Cam offers feed rate variations, programmed at the tool center, so that the same tangential speed is kept at the tool’s periphery, regardless of the tool path’s characteristics.
Sometimes, this mode creates violent decelerations and accelerations. Therefore, TopSolid'Cam limits speed variations, relative to preset limits.
Maximum Variation
This value defines the coefficient value by which the current tool feed rate is multiplied to obtain the highest possible feed rate.
Maximum feed rate = Maximum Coefficient * Tool feed rate
This coefficient is used for convex circles’ interpolation, in cases where the circle’s radius is very small and on which is used a tool with a very large radius.
Minimum Variation
This value defines the coefficient value by which the current tool feed rate is multiplied to obtain the lowest possible feed rate.
Minimum feed rate = Minimum Coefficient * Current Tool feed rate
This coefficient is used for concave circles’ interpolation, in cases where the circle radius is close to the tool radius.
Optimized Mode
This checkbox allows TopSolid'Cam to optimize tool paths in order to avoid fractures. Thus, sudden speed variations are avoided.
tool path
This pull down list allows the user to choose the linking up types available between the different entities making up the tool path:
None: No HSM is performed on the tool path.
Loop: If there is a fracture between two consecutive entities, an external loop is added to the end of each loop. This reduces actual feed rate variations detected on the machine with numerical command.
Circular: Circle arcs link tool path entities. This ensures continuity on the original tool path.

Loop Radius/Circle Radius
This value defines the radius of the loop or of the circle created, when a loop or circular tool path is requested.
Between Passes
This pull down list allows the user to choose the linking up types available between consecutive passes:
Linear: a pass is linked to another one through the tool’s linear movement
S : a pass is linked to another one, following an S shaped path.
Circular: a pass is linked to another one, following a spiral path.
