This criterion is evaluated exclusively on 3 node plate elements, 6 node elements as well as 4 and 10 node tetrahedrons.

Flatten factor for surface elements is evaluated as the ratio ((element Surface) / (Optimal Element Surface)).

Optimal element surface is the one corresponding to an equilateral triangular element prescribed in the circle passing through the nodes of the element.

Flatten factor for volume elements is evaluated as the ratio ((element volume) / (Optimal Element volume)) or

Optimal element Volume is the one corresponding to an equilateral tetrahedron element prescribed in the sphere passing through the 4 nodes of the element.

Criterion bounds are : [ 0 , 1 ].

Criterion ranges :

Element is good if criterion > 0.3

Element is allowed if criteria value ranges from 0.15 to 0.3

Element is bad if criterion < 0.15

Limits are evaluated on the basis of elements where length ratio ranges from 5% to 10%.
