The Step Size parameter is the distance from one plunge point to the next plunge point.
The Step Size is the length of the sides of the squares or the triangles in the grid pattern. The default value of the Step Size parameter is the value of the Max Step Size parameter. You can change the Step Size value but it is normal to use the default value.
You cannot make the step size greater than the Max Step Size.
