To create a series of points, click Create > Points. The following menu appears.
![]()
Nodes
Select a spline to create a point at each node.
Error
Select a spline to create points at each end, and points at controlled positions along the spline. A dialog appears that lets you set the Maximum Deviation Error. The Maximum Deviation Error controls the location and the number of points.
To determine the location of a point, SURFCAM analyzes an imaginary line drawn from that point to the previous point. No point on that line can be a greater distance from the spline than the value of the Error parameter.
The number of points on a linear section of the spline is less than the number of points on curve-like sections. A smaller Maximum Deviation Error draws a greater number of points.
Distance
Create points along an element or a chain of elements, evenly spaced by the distance you specify.
Project
Select a spline or surface to project a point and place optional vectors on spline or surface.
Select a spline, and the Project On Curve dialog box appears.
Select a surface, and the Project On Surface dialog box appears.
After you exit the dialog, select a point, as in the following examples. This places the point, and any vectors. The following examples place only the normal vector.
Video,
Project On Surface
Project On Surface projects parallel to the Z-axis of the current
CView.
Video,
Project On Curve
Project on Curve projects to the closest location on the curve and
parallel to the XY plane of the current CView. Project
on Curve uses only the X and Y values of the selected point. The
Z value has no effect.
Rectangular
Use this command to create points in the shape of a rectangle. Define the array along the X and Y axes. See the Rectangular Array dialog box.
Circular
Use this command to create a set of points around an arc. See the Circular Array dialog box.
