FARO Digitizing Modes

There are five modes from which the user can select:

Create / Undo

In this mode, pressing the primary digitizer button creates a single point in SURFCAM, and pressing the secondary button erases the point last digitized.

Temp / Accept

A temporary point is created when the primary button is pressed; the point is not taken unless the secondary button is pressed.

Stream / Undo

This mode requires the user to select a stream distance in the Stream / Undo Settings dialog. When the primary button is pressed and held down, points are digitized when the tip moves the specified distance from the last taken path. Thus a stream of points a set distance apart from one another is created.

Align Plane

Given a specified plane, the program will not output a point until the digitizer tip is parallel to the plane. The point is outputted when the primary button is held down and the angle between the actual orientation and the specified plane falls into a set tolerance. The plane and tolerance are set in the Align Plane Settings dialog.

Locked Plane

This mode requires the user to specify settings in the Locked Plane Settings dialog. In Locked Plane mode, a base plane is defined in space. Whenever the primary button is depressed (held down) and the tip crosses the defined plane, a point is taken. Multiple planes may be defined a set distance apart from one another; points would be taken whenever the primary button is depressed and the digitizer tip crosses any of these planes.
