Setting up the Models

As previously noted, the mesh consists of two regions: Fluid and Rotating. However, only one continuum is needed for the simulation since the two regions contain the same material. The physical models for this continuum are defined next.

Open the Continua > Physics 1 node and select item Select models...

In the Physics Model Selection dialog, select the Moving Reference Frame button in the Motion group box. The Time group box will appear.

The Physics Model Selection dialog will guide you through the model selection process by showing only options appropriate to the initial choices made.

Using the same technique as in the previous step:

Select Steady in the Time group box.

Select Gas in the Material group box.

Select Segregated Flow in the Flow group box.

Select Constant Density in the Equation of State group box.

Select Turbulent in the Viscous Regime group box.

Select K-Epsilon Turbulence in the Reynolds-Averaged Turbulence group box.

None of the optional physics models are required.

When you are done, the Physics Model Selection dialog should look as shown below.

Click Close

In the fan_mrf window, open the Continua node. The color of the Physics 1 node has turned from gray to blue to indicate that models have been activated.

Open the Physics 1 > Models node. The selected models now appear within that node.

Save the simulation by clicking the

(Save) button

The default material properties for air are suitable for this case so we can proceed to Setting Initial Conditions.
