Creating Field Functions

The inlet velocity profiles will be defined as linear functions of time and entered into STAR-CCM+ using the field function utility. The required functions are:

Inner Inlet:

Outer Inlet:

To create the corresponding field functions:

Open the Tools node, then right-click on the Field Functions node and select New Function.

A new field function node called User Field Function 1 will appear in the simulation tree.

Right-click on this node and select Rename....

Change the name of the field function to Inner Inlet Velocity

In the Properties window, click on the box next to the Definition property and enter the definition shown below in the User Field Function 1 - Definition dialog.

Following the same process as described above, create another field function, name it Outer Inlet Velocity and enter the following definition:

5 + 2 * $Time

Save the simulation.
