Setting Material Properties

Material properties must now be assigned to the two fluid components. For air, the default properties set up by STAR-CCM+ will be used. For methane, a molecular weight of 16 kg/kmol, a specific heat of 2230 J/kg-K, a thermal conductivity of 0.038 W/m-K and a molecular viscosity of 1.175E-5 Pas will be specified. The gas mixture density will be calculated using the Ideal Gas Law, as specified in Setting up the Models.

Open the Models > Multi-Component Gas > Gas Mixture node.

There are currently no fluid components listed within the Gas Components node.

Right-click on this node and select New Gas Component > Air (Air).

A component named Air will be created.

Right-click on the Components node again and select New Gas Component > CH4 (Methane)

A component named CH4 will be created.

Change its node name to Methane

Open the Component Properties nodes and change its material properties to the following:

Dynamic Viscosity = 1.175E-5 Pa-s

Molecular Weight = 16 kg/kmol

Specific Heat = 2230 J/kg-K

Thermal Conductivity = 0.038 W/m-K

Save the simulation.
