Setting up the Models

Models define the primary variables of the simulation, including pressure, temperature, velocity, and what mathematical formulation will be used to generate the solution. In this example, the flow is turbulent and compressible. The Segregated Flow model will be used together with the default K-Epsilon turbulence model.

The default continuum is automatically named Physics 1 when the mesh is imported. To give the continuum a more appropriate name:

Open the Continua node, right-click on the Physics 1 node and select Rename...

The Rename dialog will appear.

Change the name to Dilution Pipe and then click OK.

To select the appropriate physical models for the fluid region:

Open the Continua node, then right-click on the Dilution Pipe node and select item Select models...

In the Physics Model Selection dialog:

The Three Dimensional radio button should have been selected automatically from the Space group box, so select Stationary in the Motion group box.

The Physics Model Selection dialog will guide you through the model selection process by showing only options that are appropriate to the choices made so far. Using the same technique as in the previous step:

Select Multi-Component Gas in the Material group box.

Select Non-Reacting in the Reaction Regime group box.

Select Segregated Flow in the Flow group box.

Select Ideal Gas in the Equation of State group box.

Select Steady in the Time group box.

Select Turbulent in the Viscous Regime group box.

Select K-Epsilon Turbulence in the Reynolds-Averaged Turbulence group box.

The Physics Model Selection dialog should look as shown below when you are done.

Click Close.

In the dilPipeSteady window, note that the color of the Dilution Pipe node has turned from gray to blue to indicate that models have been activated.

Open the Dilution Pipe > Models node.

The selected models now appear within that node.

Save the simulation by clicking on the

(Save) button.
