Scaling the Mesh

The original mesh was built in inches, but no scaling factor was applied when it was saved to the .ccm file. The Mesh > Diagnostics... menu item may be used to determine the current mesh dimensions, but this information is already available from the mesh import process and is displayed in the Output window.

As can be seen from this output, the mesh region at import extends from 0 to 5.0 in the x-direction, 0 to 5.5 in the y-direction and 0.0 to 1.5 in the z-direction. Without any further action, these units will be interpreted by STAR-CCM+ as meters. The region therefore needs to be scaled by 0.0254 so that the dimensions are correctly specified.

Select Mesh > Scale Mesh... from the menu bar.

In the Scale Mesh dialog, check that the Fluid region is in the Selected list box and then enter a value of 0.0254 for the scale factor.

Click Apply to scale the domain and then click Close.

When the Apply button is clicked, the mesh region will be reduced in size.

Click on the

(Reset) button in the visualization toolbar to restore the previous viewing distance for the scaled domain in the display.

To verify that the scaling has in fact been applied, you can perform the mesh diagnostics check and review the output values.
