Monitoring the Run Progress
As part of the post-processing operations, we will check that the calculated pressure drop across the porous region is close to the theoretical drop given by Eqn. 1. To help us do this, we will monitor the average pressure on both fluid-porous interfaces and the mass flow rate through the porous region throughout the run. These monitors will also be used to decide when the solution has converged.
- To create an average pressure report on the upstream interface, right-click on the Reports node and select .

- In the Properties window, click on the Parts property and select from the Select Objects list.

- Click Close then select as the Scalar property
- Right-click on the Area-Averaged 1 node and select .

- Change the name of the report to
Average Upstream Pressure and click OK.

- Right-click on the Average Upstream Pressure node and select .

- A new node called Average Upstream Pressure Monitor will appear inside the Monitors node.
- Create a second report for the average downstream pressure using exactly the same method. This report should have in its Parts list and be named Average Downstream Pressure.
- Create a monitor of this report also.
The simulation tree should look as shown below when you are done:
To create a report for the mass flow rate through the porous region:
- Right-click again on the Reports node and select
- Rename the new Mass Flow 1 node
Mass Flow Rate then, in the Property window, select in the Parts list.

- Right-click on the Mass Flow Rate node and select to create the Mass Flow Rate Monitor node.
The next step is to create plots of the monitored values. We shall create two plots: one for the mass flow rate and one containing both the upstream and downstream pressure monitors.
- Right-click on the Mass Flow Rate Monitor node and select .

- Repeat this for the Average Downstream Pressure Monitor node
- Rather than do the same for the Average Upstream Pressure Monitor node, open the Plots > Average Downstream Pressure Monitor Plot node that has just been created
- Within this node, right-click on the Monitors node and select .

- In the Customizer Dialog, add to the Selected list.

- Right-click on the Average Downstream Pressure Monitor Plot node and select . Change its name to
Pressure Drop Monitor Plot.
- To preview the plot set-ups, double-click on the Mass Flow Rate Monitor Plot and Pressure Drop Monitor Plot nodes.
