Replacing the Import Surface Mesh

The original imported surface can be replaced by another surface mesh in order to generate a new volume mesh. In this example, the valve position has been changed, so we will build a new mesh using the same parameters as before. Alternatively, we could have easily made a design change to the original CAD in order to address deficiencies found in the original design after running the first analysis.

STAR-CCM+ is currently restricted to replacing a surface via the pro-STAR database format only (regardless of the format used for the original surface import). In this instance, the imported STL data was exported from STAR-CCM+ and read into pro-STAR where the valve position was modified. It was then re-exported as a database file. The units were also modified to be inches, corresponding to the original units of the import geometry (for consistency, although they could have been left in meters also).
