STAR-CCM+ lets you apply the automatic save action to the same simulation files or copies of it. The value of the Max Autosaved Files property refers to the number of additional files to create. The default setting of zero instructs STAR-CCM+ to keep overwriting the same file, the same as executing the Save command.
To save to copies, change the value to a positive number.

As it runs STAR-CCM+ will save a separate copy of the simulation file at each instance of the auto save operation. The name of each copy will include the existing simulation name, along with the number of the particular interval to ensure that each file is unique. These copies are saved in the same directory as the original simulation file. When the specified number of files is reached, the next auto save action causes the oldest copy of the file to be deleted.
