What is a Contact Angle?

The influence of a solid wall on the free surface can be described by means of the contact angle . This value node (Contact Angle in the screenshot below) is activated as soon as the Surface Tension option is selected in the Physics Model Selection dialog. It is entered as a scalar profile.

Its magnitude depends on the pair of fluids and the solid in contact and on temperature. In the current implementation, it is assumed that the specified value is with respect to the first phase defined for the mixture. Values of contact angle smaller than mean that the phase is wetting the wall, as illustrated part (a) of the Figure below.

In order to comply with the usual convention on contact angle values, shown above, it is advisable to define the liquid phase as the first of the mixture's components.
