What is the Discrete Ordinates Model?

A numerical model for describing radiative heat transfer in participating media (see Basic Model Equations). The node corresponding to STAR-CCM+'s implementation of this model is activated as soon as the Discrete Ordinate Radiation option is selected in the Physics Model Selection dialog.

The model's main parameter is the accuracy of the angular representation of space around a given cell. This accuracy is specified by the number of ordinate sets, as selected from the Ordinate Sets drop-down list in the corresponding Properties window (see Numerical Solution for an explanation of this concept).
