Formulation

The target total heat exchange is specified by the user, but the distribution is computed by STAR-CCM+ as follows:

(114)

The heat addition to (or removal from) each cell in the fluid stream is proportional to the mass flux times the heat capacity through the cell and the difference between the cell temperature and the reference stream temperature.

Nomenclature

The following is a guide to the terms used in this section.

User Input Values

Total heat source (positive ) or sink (negative ) transferred to/from the region. Units: Watts

Reference temperature used to distribute heat into the region. Heat transfer is proportional to the difference of this value and the local cell temperature. Units: Kelvin

Other Values

Cell heat source/sink. Units: Watts

Cell volume. Units: cubic meters

Mass flux entering cell. Units: kg/s

Cell temperature. Units: Kelvin
