STEP Format

Standard for the Exchange of Product model data (STEP) is an international standard for the exchange of industrial product data. It was developed to provide a method for describing product data through its life cycle but is typically used to exchange data between various CAD, CAM and CAE applications. STEP files are saved in ASCII.

When selecting STEP files during CAD data import, the CAD import options dialog will appear as follows:

The choice of Boundary Mode, Region Mode, Mark Feature Edges and Tessellation Density can be made from the appropriate pull-down menus. A larger Sewing Tolerance can be specified if gaps are present in the geometry. No units specification option is provided as this information is automatically preserved by the file. An optional choice for the opening a geometry scene after import can also be done.
