Importing CAD Data

To import CAD data, the steps outlined below should be followed:

  1. Create one or more data files in a CAD program external to STAR-CCM+ and export it in a suitable file format.
  2. Import the CAD data file(s) into STAR-CCM+ with the desired tessellation density, causing mesh regions and boundaries to be created.
  3. Review the CAD import report for errors.
  4. Visualize the geometry of the regions and boundaries that have been created and check the surface validity and mesh quality.
  5. Scale, rotate or translate the regions in order to properly position them relative to one another.
  6. If the boundaries and regions have not been properly demarcated, grouped or separated, you will have to manipulate regions and/or boundaries to make them conform with the requirements for multi-region meshing.

Previously defined volume meshes can be imported in tandem with CAD data so that only a part of the simulation domain needs to be prepared for volume meshing.
